Here is an example of a wonderful Self Drive Itinerary for one of our diverse well-travelled clients

 

Day 1 / Arrival, Welcome to New Zealand

After your arrival flight to New Zealand our driver will meet you at the International Airport where he will go through your itinerary in detail and answer any questions you have. Before transferring you to your hotel to relax for the evening.
 

Day 2 / Auckland to Rotorua via Waitomo Glowworm Caves

This morning after Breakfast take a short stroll down to the Hertz Rental Car Office in Central Auckland to collect your rental car.

Once you are ready to depart drive south through the sleepy rural towns of the upper central North Island to the underground wonderland, the Waitomo Glowworm Caves.

Where you get to enjoy the world famous boat ride under thousands of magical glowworms that has been bringing people to the caves for over 120 years.

From here you can have an optional lunch before finishing the final leg of your day's travel to Rotorua.
 

Day 3 / Self Drive Rotorua Sightseeing Tour

Start your day's Sightseeing with a visit to Rotorua’s Agrodome for the Organic Farm Tour and the World Famous Sheep Show, fun for all ages with plenty of humour, education a real taste of New Zealand’s Farming Heritage.

Following this you will travel to the sleepy town of Matamata (headland in Maori) to visit Hobbiton “the Shire” the sight used in the Filming of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy and more Recently the Hobbit Trilogy.

See iconic locations from the movies perfectly maintained in all of their original fixtures in this unsuspecting rural area. Finish up with a Visit the Green Dragon Inn for great local fare and a cold in house made Beer and Apple Cider in the Waikato sun.

 

Day 4 / Morning Rotorua Sightseeing Afternoon Rotorua to Christchurch Domestic Flight

This morning see the Geothermal Activity and Maori Culture Rotorua, recognised the world over, with a visit to the Whakarewarewa Valley, simply known as Te Puia.

Here, at the start of your guided tour, you will see the traditions of the Te Arawa Tribe. The local Crafts institute houses some of the nation's most recognised traditional Maori Artisans, creating unique works of art to be showcased around the world (no souvenirs here).

Continuing on the tour you will be taken through the Geothermal Park with your experienced guide, you will see the full spectrum of colourful mineral deposits lining the steamy bubbling pools below the roaring Geysers.

Saying goodbye to the North Island you will board the domestic flight to the South Island and the Patchwork fields of the Garden City of Christchurch, named after the beautiful parks and gardens throughout the city.

 

Day 5 / Christchurch to Mt Cook Via Lake Tekapo

Today you will travel south along the Sothern Alps, passing rich blue lakes like Tekapo, winding through  the dramatic alpine countryside to reach your night's destination MT Cook or Aoraki in Maori (The Cloud piercer) New Zealand’s highest Peak.

As the stars come out this evening so will you for a unique experience from the Aoraki Makenzie International Dark Sky’s Reserve. Due to the Isolation of Mt Cook, far from the lights of any settlement, you will have a view of the stars few will ever see. This reserve has been gold rated by astrologers having some of the darkest skies on the planet

Tonight you will have the pleasure of staying within the Mt Cook National park at the Hermitage Hotel, The breath-taking scenery of the Sothern Alps wilderness surrounding you with unrivalled silence.

 

Day 5 / Glacier Explorers Tour and afternoon journey from Mt Cook to Queenstown

This morning you will be guided from the Hooker Valley to the nearby Tasman Valley, home of the Tasman Glacier, your tour will take you across the ever-growing Glacial Lake by boat, passing massive icebergs formed by Ice collapses over 500 years ago - an unforgettable experience.
